Bujutsu is the classical Japanese martial arts which developed during the feudal period of Japan. It is known as Koryu Bujutsu.
The primary objective of Koryu Bujutsu is to engage in the practice of martial arts in order to develop the combative mindset that can be utilized in mortal combat. It has no sporting component and free sparring is rarely used due to the danger of using wooden replica of bladed weapons.
Generally, Bujutsu is composed of Kenjutsu, the art of swordsmanship; Taijutsu or Jujutsu, the unarmed techniques; Kyujutsu, the techniques of archery; Sojutsu, the techniques of using spear and halberd; Bojutsu, the techniques of using wooden staff.
GKMA includes training in some kenjutsu forms from the known oldest schools of martial arts in Japan, the Niten Ichi Ryu and Katori Shinto Ryu. We have formal lineage thru Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu under the head of Philippine Shibu, Isagani Batayola Sensei. Other swordsmanship traditions we got thru formal training from other country outside mainland Japan. Our kenjutsu training is open to those serious in practicing and preserving the traditions of those schools. |
