Goshin Kai Martial Arts was formed in 1994 thru the initiative of Joel Anajao & Samuel Dulay together with their colleagues from the ARJUKEN (Arnis-Jujitsu-Kendo Karate Association) group and their students from different clubs and schools in Metro Manila. Initially the group focused on teaching sports karatedo, traditional jujitsu and modern arnis to different schools and private institutions. After years of teaching and promoting martial arts, GKMA produced numerous instructors in different martial disciplines.
GKMA concept of martial arts training is to develop complete martial artists, who are adept in striking, grappling/throwing and weapon arts; and with a determined discipline and humane character.
Below are the main martial arts training courses offered by the group:
1. Karate: the art and system of self defense using hands and feet. In GKMA we are training all students in the techniques and discipline of Okinawan Goju Ryu which is the base for either competitive karate which we design for children and youth and traditional self defense strategies and tactics for adults.
2. Ryukyu Kobudo: the classical martial art of Okinawa on using farm and fishing implements as weapons of self defense. Our kobudo training focus on kata (forms), pre-arranged paired sparring and self defense.
3. Bujutsu: the classical Japanese martial art of swordsmanship. The group is dedicated in promoting and preserving this treasured samurai arts.
4. Eskrima: the Filipino martial art of using stick, bladed weapons and empty hands. Our eskrima syllabus is a mixed of practical and effective styles for competitive and real eskrima fight.
5. Haedong Kumdo: the classical Korean swordsmanship which focuses on developing harmony in oneself. HK focuses on dance forms and bamboo cutting exercises which can help a swordsman to be more fluid in action using sword.
6. Muay Thai: referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner of Muay Thai ("nak muay") thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.
In GKMA we categorized our Martial Arts offerings into:
1. Competitive Martial Arts: which we offers for schools and youth based institutions. These are the sports Karatedo and sports Arnis.
2. Pure Martial Arts: which we offer for those serious in studying pure martial arts, strategies and combative mind set. These are the Bujutsu, Haedong Kumdo, Aikido, Ryukyu Kobudo and Meibukan Goju Ryu.
3. Fighting Arts: which we teach to those who are working in security and military services. And to those interested in mix and full contact martial arts. These arts are the Muay Thai, Jujitsu and Eskrima.
Our instructors/instructresses are all well rounded in at least three martial arts disciplines. All of them are experienced in teaching. Most of them are former players in particular martial arts and have qualified either as fitness instructors or as licensed school teachers. GKMA is a dedicated group in pursuing its missions.
